Mid-Session: Sensex in green; metal stocks in focus

Indian benchmark indices continued to trade higher during the noon trading session supported by metal and consumer goods stocks.

Among individuals, Share of KEI Industries rose more than 4 percent on January 24 after company passed resolutions for raising of funds by way of issue of equity shares, through a QIP.

Shares of Yes Bank remained on an upward trajectory and jumped almost 10 percent in morning trade on BSE on January 24. The stock had logged a healthy gain of 6.5 percent a day before buoyed by reports that State Bank of India (SBI) Chairman Rajnish Kumar had indicated that the private lender will not be allowed to fail.

Meanwhile, the Indian rupee erased early losses and trading flat at 71.26 per dollar versus Thursday's close of 71.26.

At 12:35 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 41529.69 up by 143.29 points or by 0.35 % and then NSE Nifty was at 12225.25 up by 44.9 points or by 0.37 %.

Sensex touched intraday high of 41587.18 and intraday low of 41275.6 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 12246.35 and intraday low of 12149.65

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were NTPC Ltd. (Rs. 115.90,+2.02%), HCL Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 608.35,+1.68%), Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 119.50,+1.49%), Larsen & Toubro Ltd. (Rs. 1352.50,+1.48%), Hero MotoCorp Ltd. (Rs. 2465.00,+1.43%), among others.

The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (Rs. 197.10,-2.06%), Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 517.25,-1.21%), Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 776.50,-1.03%), Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (Rs. 2182.00,-0.52%), Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (Rs. 7124.00,-0.24%), among others.

Among the sectors, Metal index was at 10397.98 up by 134.12 points or by 1.31%. Jindal Steel & Power Ltd. (Rs. 186.55,+3.73%), JSW Steel Ltd. (Rs. 272.95,+2.36%), Steel Authority of India (SAIL) Ltd. (Rs. 51.40,+2.09%), National Aluminium Company Ltd. (Rs. 47.00,+1.95%), Coal India Ltd. (Rs. 194.20,+1.81%),.

On the flip side, IT index was at 16161.82 down by -68.84 points or by -0.42%. Zensar Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 176.50,-11.06%), NIIT Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 1945.40,-2.26%), Allsec Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 313.00,-2.05%), 3i Infotech Ltd. (Rs. 2.42,-2.02%), Shivalik Bimetal Controls Ltd. (Rs. 51.05,-2.02%),.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 2552 , shares advanced were 1418 while 960 shares declined and 174 were unchanged.
