Post-Session: Sensex ends 227 pts higher; metal stocks gain

Bulls took charge for the second consecutive day on Friday, as markets decisively stayed in the positive territory after a mild losses in the early morning trade. Pre-budget rally and decent Q3FY20 results throughout the day were the biggest factors driving the markets today. Banking counters were leading the charge from the front with HDFC twins, ICICI Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank, and Axis Bank being the top contributors of the gains today.

The 30-share benchmark index ended at 41613.19 up by 226.79 points or by 0.55 % and then NSE Nifty was at 12248.25 up by 67.9 points or by 0.56 %.

Sensex touched intraday high of 41697.03 and intraday low of 41275.6 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 12272.15 and intraday low of 12149.65.

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were UltraTech Cement Ltd. (Rs. 4641.05,+2.47%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 787.50,+2.43%), Larsen & Toubro Ltd. (Rs. 1359.80,+2.03%), Axis Bank Ltd. (Rs. 737.30,+2.01%), Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1638.00,+1.98%), among others.

The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (Rs. 196.95,-2.14%), IndusInd Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1316.00,-1.21%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Rs. 447.70,-0.49%), Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (Rs. 2184.60,-0.40%), Reliance Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1521.70,-0.35%), among others.

Among the sectors, CGS index was at 17726.61 up by 262.33 points or by 1.5%. Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (Rs. 45.00,+3.57%), Solar Industries India Ltd. (Rs. 1184.00,+2.86%), NBCC (India) Ltd. (Rs. 37.45,+2.74%), Siemens Ltd. (Rs. 1624.50,+2.59%), Larsen & Toubro Ltd. (Rs. 1359.80,+2.03%),.

Oil&Gas index was at 14596.48 down by -2.94 points or by -0.02%. Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 244.70,-0.89%), Castrol India Ltd. (Rs. 129.55,-0.88%), Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd. The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 2959 , shares advanced were 1518 while 1236 shares declined and 205 were unchanged
