Mid-Session: Indices trade in the green; Dec WPI inflation at 1.22%

Indian benchmark indices bounced back in green during the noon trading session after paring their early losses in Thursday's volatile session, ahead of the weekly F&O expiry later in the day.

Meanwhile, The wholesale price-based inflation slowed to 1.22 per cent in December on easing food prices, as per government data released on Thursday.

The inflation based on Wholesale Price Index (WPI) was 1.55 per cent in November 2020, and 2.76 per cent in December 2019.

The rate of inflation based on WPI Food Index decreased from 4.27 per cent in November 2020, to 0.92 per cent in December 2020, as per the data released by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade.

At 12:35 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 49588.98 up by 96.66 points or by 0.2 % and then NSE Nifty was at 14590.25 up by 25.4 points or by 0.17 %.

Sensex touched intraday high of 49621.32 and intraday low of 49182.37 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 14590.9 and intraday low of 14471.5

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were IndusInd Bank Ltd. (Rs. 973.00,+3.21%), Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (Rs. 3218.00,+1.87%), Larsen & Toubro Ltd. (Rs. 1374.00,+1.63%), Reliance Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1964.60,+1.32%), ITC Ltd. (Rs. 213.85,+1.23%), among others.

The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were HCL Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 1026.90,-2.71%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 1052.45,-1.51%), UltraTech Cement Ltd. (Rs. 5570.15,-1.47%), Asian Paints Ltd. (Rs. 2669.30,-1.30%), Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 1370.95,-1.21%), among others.

Among the sectors, CGS index was at 19948.04 up by 302.51 points or by 1.54%. Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd. (Rs. 1016.45,+10.38%), Adani Green Energy Ltd. (Rs. 964.35,+4.65%), Bharat Electronics Ltd. (Rs. 139.75,+4.41%), Lakshmi Machine Works Ltd. (Rs. 5284.25,+4.16%), AIA Engineering Ltd. (Rs. 2115.00,+2.36%),.

Metal index was at 12491.33 down by -132.91 points or by -1.05%. Steel Authority of India (SAIL) Ltd. (Rs. 68.40,-8.43%), JSW Steel Ltd. (Rs. 395.00,-2.02%), Jindal Steel & Power Ltd. (Rs. 294.25,-1.87%), Hindustan Zinc Ltd. (Rs. 281.60,-1.33%), Vedanta Ltd. (Rs. 178.25,-1.19%),.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 3140 , shares advanced were 1520 while 1440 shares declined and 180 were unchanged.
