Mid-Session: Sensex surges 369 points; Nifty around 17,500

Domestic bourses were trading higher during the noon trading session on the back of solid gains in Reliance Industries, IT stocks and select private banking stocks.

Reliance has surged 4 per cent to Rs 2,445. Kotak Bank, Dr.Reddy's and Infosys were the other notable gainers. On the flip side, ICICI Bank, IndusInd Bank and NTPC trended lower.

GlaxoSmithkline Pharma had zoomed 10 per cent and was the top gainer in the mid-cap space. Torrent Pharma, Lodha, Sona BLW, Aditya Birla Capital and Godrej Properties were the other major gainers. Wheras, CRISIL, Rajesh Exports and ABB were the prominent losers, down 2 per cent each.

At 12:38 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 58710.47 up by 369.48 points or by 0.63 % and then NSE Nifty was at 17509.15 up by 94.1 points or by 0.54 %.

Sensex touched intraday high of 58807.67 and intraday low of 58143.86 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 17540.8 and intraday low of 17351.7

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Reliance Industries Ltd. (Rs. 2474.85,+5.27%), Dr. Reddy's Laboratories Ltd. (Rs. 4694.25,+2.03%), Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 1723.20,+1.51%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 1559.90,+1.31%), Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (Rs. 2035.20,+1.15%), among others.

The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were NTPC Ltd. (Rs. 132.60,-2.07%), ICICI Bank Ltd. (Rs. 749.65,-1.39%), IndusInd Bank Ltd. (Rs. 958.30,-1.35%), Asian Paints Ltd. (Rs. 3123.15,-1.13%), Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (Rs. 2350.95,-1.07%), among others.

HCS index was at 25298.9 up by 352.62 points or by 1.41%. GlaxoSmithKline Pharmaceuticals Ltd. (Rs. 1801.00,+11.45%), Krishna Institute of Medical Sciences Ltd. The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 3513 , shares advanced were 2034 while 1307 shares declined and 172 were unchanged.
