Post Session: Sensex ends 623 pts higher; PSU banks, Realty stocks rally

The Indian benchmark indices ended at record closing highs after BJP led NDA government got clear mandate in the Lok Sabha Election 2019 and returned to power. Among sectors, PSU Banks up over 5.5 per cent and Realty rose more than 4 per cent, financials also made the contribution in rise. The rupee is trading higher by 37 paise at 69.64 per dollar against previous close 70.01. On the corporate front, Tata Steel, Vedanta, Bharti Airtel and ICICI Bank were among top gainers whereas ONGC, TCS, HCL Tech were among the losers. In the individual shares, HDFC sold its 6.10 per cent stake to Gruh Finance in order to meet RBI conditions for Bandhan Bank merger. Whereas, the shares of Ashok Leyland rose more than 6 per cent ahead of its March quarter earnings to be announced on Friday.

The 30-share index closed at 39434.72 up by 623.33 points or by 1.61 per cent and then NSE Nifty was at 11844.1 up by 187.05 points or by 1.6 per cent. The BSE Sensex touched intraday high of 39476.97 and intraday low of 38824.26 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 11859 and intraday low of 11658.1.

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex were ICICI Bank Ltd. (Rs. 431.50,+5.09%), Larsen & Toubro Ltd. (Rs. 1543.65,+4.60%), Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 353.35,+4.42%), Vedanta Ltd. (Rs. 163.85,+4.20%), Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 182.15,+4.09%), among others. On the other hand, the top losers of the BSE Sensex were NTPC Ltd. (Rs. 129.20,-0.54%), HCL Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 1061.65,-0.46%), Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (Rs. 2049.65,-0.20%), Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (Rs. 1749.20,-0.10%), among others.

Among sectors, Realty index was at 2166.21 up by 86.94 points or by 4.18%. Indiabulls Real Estate Ltd. (Rs. 129.90,+11.12%), DLF Ltd. (Rs. 191.50,+6.04%), Sobha Ltd. (Rs. 532.00,+5.23%), Godrej Industries Ltd. (Rs. 882.35,+4.20%), Housing Development & Infrastructure Ltd. (Rs. 22.75,+3.17%),. On the flip side, CDS index was at 24262.69 down by 108.32 points or by 0.45%. Whirlpool of India Ltd. (Rs. 1378.85,-1.09%),.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 2864 , shares advanced were 1929 while 764 shares declined and 171 were unchanged.
