In a move to enhance road infrastructure in the Northeast, the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (MDoNER) has approved the construction of the Mangoldoi-Mazikuchi road in Assam. The 15-kilometre stretch, from KM 11+000 to KM 26+200, will be developed at a cost of Rs 45.31 crore under the North East Special Infrastructure Development Scheme (NESIDS) – Roads.
This newly sanctioned project is expected to serve as a vital link between the Darrang district headquarters at Mangaldoi and the Udalguri district subdivision headquarters at Bhergaon, effectively reducing the travel distance by 7.2 kilometres. The road will also significantly improve access to seven educational institutions, including Deomornoi College, and enhance connectivity to notable tourist sites such as the Pathurighat Krishak Shahid Memorial, Khotora Satra, and historical water bodies like Lakhimpur Pukhuri and Ramgaon Pukhuri.
The NESIDS (Roads) initiative, a key component of the broader North East Special Infrastructure Development Scheme, is fully funded by the Government of India and closely monitored by MDoNER in coordination with respective state governments.
MDoNER continues to play a pivotal role in the region’s development through its flagship initiatives, including the PM-DevINE Scheme, NESIDS (Roads and OTRI), and the Schemes of the North Eastern Council (NEC).
