TDB-DST Backs India’s First 240-Volt Electric Motorcycle Platform

The Technology Development Board (TDB) under the Department of Science & Technology has extended support to Chennai-based Raptee Energy Pvt. Ltd. for developing and commercialising India’s first 240-volt electric motorcycle platform—marking a major breakthrough in the country’s two-wheeler EV segment.

Leveraging high-voltage technology proven in electric cars, the motorcycle will offer faster charging, higher efficiency, and seamless integration with India’s public charging infrastructure. A specialised ARAI-certified battery pack has been developed for the platform, while Raptee’s in-house DSIR-recognised R&D unit has designed and validated all key components, from electronics and mechanical systems to embedded software, ensuring quality and indigenous innovation.

The project also features smart connectivity, including remote diagnostics and over-the-air updates, and adopts zero-waste, low-emission manufacturing practices aligned with Aatmanirbhar Bharat and the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

TDB Secretary Rajesh Kumar Pathak said the initiative would accelerate EV adoption and strengthen domestic R&D capacity, while Raptee Energy CEO Dinesh Arjun described the support as a milestone for scaling indigenous, future-ready mobility solutions and bolstering India’s position in the global EV transition.
