United Forum of Bank Unions Threatens Nationwide Bank Strike on January 27

Bank employees’ unions under the banner of the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) have warned of a nationwide strike on January 27, pressing for the implementation of a five-day workweek.

If the strike goes ahead, banking operations—particularly at public sector banks—could face disruption for three consecutive days, as January 25 and 26 are existing holidays. Currently, bank employees are entitled to holidays on the second and fourth Saturdays of each month, in addition to Sundays.
