SGB 2019–20 Series VIII: Premature Redemption Price Fixed at Rs 14,432 per Unit

The government has announced the premature redemption price for the Sovereign Gold Bond (SGB) 2019–20 Series VIII, which is due for early redemption on January 21, 2026.

As per the Government of India notification dated September 30, 2019, premature redemption of this tranche is permitted after the completion of five years from the date of issue, on an interest payment date. Accordingly, January 21, 2026 marks the next eligible date for premature redemption for bonds issued on January 21, 2020.

The redemption price has been fixed at Rs 14,432 per unit, calculated on the basis of the simple average of the closing price of gold of 999 purity for the previous three business days—January 16, 19, and 20, 2026—as published by the India Bullion and Jewellers Association Ltd (IBJA).
