The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has received 18 bids from highway developers for the construction of the 85.6-km Kaliabor–Numaligarh section of NH-715 in Assam, to be implemented under the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) mode.
The project, estimated to cost around Rs 6,956 crore, will pass through the Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve and is expected to be awarded in the current financial year. The project was approved by the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, and the foundation stone was laid by Narendra Modi in January 2026.
A key component of the project is the 34.5-km Kaziranga Elevated Corridor, designed to enable safe and uninterrupted wildlife movement between Kaziranga National Park and the Karbi Anglong hills. The corridor will be built in three stretches of 18.3 km, 11.2 km and 5 km, as part of upgrading NH-715 from two lanes to four lanes.
The project will also include two greenfield bypasses totaling 21 km at Jakhlabandha (Nagaon) and Bokakhat (Golaghat), along with one major bridge, 20 minor bridges, seven flyovers, 84 culverts, a railway overbridge, multiple vehicular underpasses, bus shelters and 16 km of service roads.
For environmental safeguards, NHAI consulted the Wildlife Institute of India, the National Tiger Conservation Authority, and the Assam Forest Department, while approvals were obtained from the National Board for Wildlife.
Once completed, the project is expected to enhance connectivity, boost tourism to Kaziranga, and support trade and industrial growth in Assam.
