Ahmedabad Leads Nationwide Fit India Cycling Drive on Commonwealth Games Day

Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports marked the 75th edition of Fit India Sundays on Cycle with large-scale participation across more than 8,000 locations nationwide, celebrating Commonwealth Games Day and building momentum towards the 2030 Commonwealth Games in Ahmedabad.

The main event was held at the Sabarmati Riverfront in Ahmedabad, where Mansukh Mandaviya, Harsh Sanghvi and actor Ayushmann Khurrana joined nearly 5,000 cyclists, athletes and fitness enthusiasts in a five-kilometre cycling rally themed “A New Icon for a Fitter India – Pedalling to 2030.”

The event also featured yoga and Zumba sessions, sports activities such as pickleball, volleyball, box cricket, tug of war, and community games, creating a festival-like atmosphere for participants of all age groups. A special Commonwealth Games-themed exhibition showcasing India’s sporting achievements and sports infrastructure growth under the Khelo India Mission was inaugurated during the programme.

Former Commonwealth Games medallists and Olympians including Gurjit Kaur, Anjum Moudgil, Gagan Narang and Adille Sumariwalla also participated in the celebrations.

Speaking at the event, Mansukh Mandaviya emphasised the importance of fitness in building a prosperous nation and encouraged citizens to adopt cycling as part of daily life to promote health, reduce pollution and conserve fuel.

Harsh Sanghvi said the strong turnout reflected growing awareness about fitness and sports among people in Gujarat, while Ayushmann Khurrana highlighted the importance of sports culture and youth participation in shaping India’s sporting future.

The initiative, launched under the Fit India Movement in December 2024, has grown into one of India’s largest community-driven fitness campaigns, reaching more than 3.07 lakh locations and engaging over 50 lakh cyclists nationwide.
