RBI denies reports of gold sales, says holdings remain unchanged

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has clarified that recent media reports suggesting that the central bank has sold gold are incorrect.

In an official statement, the RBI said that its physical gold holdings remain unchanged at 880.52 tonnes as of date. The central bank noted that details of its gold reserves are regularly disclosed through its Monthly Bulletin, which is available on the RBI’s website.

The clarification was issued to address misinformation circulating in certain sections of the media regarding the RBI’s gold reserve position. The central bank advised the public and market participants to rely only on official information published by the RBI for matters related to its reserve assets and financial operations.

The statement reassures that there has been no reduction in the RBI's physical gold stock, which continues to form an important part of India's foreign exchange reserves and reserve management strategy.
