APEDA facilitates first sea export of millet-based functional foods to New Zealand

A major milestone for India's agri-food exports was achieved as Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority facilitated the first-ever sea shipment of botanical-infused, ready-to-cook millet functional foods from Karnataka to New Zealand.

The consignment, weighing one metric tonne, was exported by Infini Agrotek LLP and consisted of value-added millet-based products designed to cater to growing global demand for nutritious and innovative food solutions.

The export order was secured following the company's participation in APEDA-supported international trade events, including World Food India 2025, Indus Food 2025, and Gulfood 2026. These platforms helped the exporter establish connections with overseas buyers and expand its global market presence.

The shipment was virtually flagged off by Abhishek Dev, who commended the company's efforts in developing innovative millet-based products and successfully accessing international markets.

The development highlights the increasing global acceptance of Indian millet products and reinforces the growing importance of millets in India's agricultural export basket. Rising international demand for nutritious, climate-resilient grains is creating new opportunities for farmers, food processors, and exporters across the millet value chain.

APEDA noted that exports of value-added millet products are expected to boost farmer incomes, enhance market access, and strengthen India's position as a key supplier of healthy and sustainable food products in global markets.
