Indian Railways has approved the doubling of the 14-km Tadali–Ghugus railway section in Maharashtra at an estimated cost of Rs. 228 crore, aimed at enhancing network capacity and improving freight movement on a key rail corridor.
The Tadali–Ghugus section is part of the Wardha–Balharshah route on the Delhi–Chennai High Density Network (HDN) and currently operates as a single-line track. The doubling project is expected to ease congestion, improve train operations, and support rising freight demand.
The route primarily carries bulk commodities such as coal, iron ore, gypsum, petroleum products (POL), sand, and laterite ash. Upon completion, the project is expected to add 4.5 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) of freight handling capacity, strengthening logistics efficiency and supporting industrial and economic growth in the region.
The project is part of Indian Railways' broader initiative to expand rail infrastructure and enhance freight transportation capacity across the country.
