The Government of India is developing industrial townships under the National Industrial Corridor Development Programme (NICDP) through a Centre-State partnership model, with projects being implemented by Special Purpose Vehicles (SPVs) jointly formed with state governments.

So far, the government has approved 20 industrial nodes, including 12 projects cleared over the last five years. Under the programme, state governments provide land, while the Centre supports projects through equity and debt funding.

The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) has sanctioned and released Rs 16,172.95 crore to the National Industrial Corridor Development and Implementation Trust (NICDIT). Of this, Rs 14,569.97 crore has been disbursed by NICDIT to project SPVs for the development of industrial corridor projects.

Out of the 20 approved projects, four have been completed, while work is underway on the remaining 16 projects, with a targeted construction timeline of 36–48 months from the appointment of EPC contractors.

The programme includes the development of internal infrastructure such as roads, water supply, sewerage, and power distribution, while external connectivity, including roads, power, telecom, and bulk water supply, is being coordinated with state governments and central agencies under the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan.
