Aadhaar App crosses 5 cr downloads, boosting convenient digital identity services

The Aadhaar App has crossed 50 million, or 5 crore, downloads, highlighting the growing adoption of convenient and digital-first Aadhaar services among residents.

The app serves as a digital interface between residents and UIDAI, allowing Aadhaar holders to access services such as mobile number, address and email updates, biometric lock/unlock and e-Aadhaar downloads directly through their smartphones.

More than 60 lakh mobile number updates, over 15 lakh address updates and more than 23 lakh email updates have been completed through the app, reflecting rising preference for digital Aadhaar services without visiting an Aadhaar centre.

UIDAI has also onboarded more than 200 entities as Offline Verification Seeking Entities (OVSEs) since the rollout of the initiative in January. These entities can verify Aadhaar information through offline mechanisms, including QR code-based verification and digitally signed documents, without requiring real-time connectivity to UIDAI’s central database.

The initiatives aim to strengthen secure, consent-based and paperless identity verification while giving residents greater control over their personal information, in line with the government’s Digital India vision and focus on ease of living.
