UPI transaction value jumps over 4,000-fold in a decade

India’s Unified Payments Interface (UPI), which completed 10 years on August 25, 2026, has witnessed a massive surge in transaction value, rising from Rs 0.07 lakh crore in FY17 to around Rs 314 lakh crore in FY26.

The more than 4,000-fold increase has cemented UPI’s position as a key pillar of India’s Digital Public Infrastructure, offering real-time and interoperable payments for both peer-to-peer and merchant transactions.

UPI has also played a significant role in expanding digital financial services, promoting financial inclusion and enabling wider participation in the formal digital economy across the country.
