The Indian rupee extended its gains for the fifth consecutive session on Thursday, appreciating 12 paise to close at 95.05 (provisional) against the US dollar, supported by the continued impact of the Reserve Bank of India's structural foreign exchange interventions.
Market participants attributed the currency's appreciation to central bank intervention and the unwinding of long dollar positions.
However, persistent external macroeconomic pressures are expected to limit further gains, they said.
