The Ministry of Defence has signed contracts worth approximately Rs 4,106 crore for the acquisition of the GSAT-7C communication satellite for the Indian Air Force and Varunastra Heavy Weight Torpedoes for the Indian Navy.
The contract for GSAT-7C, valued at Rs 2,563 crore, was signed with New Space India Limited (NSIL), Bengaluru. The indigenously designed, developed and manufactured satellite will enhance secure and resilient communication capabilities for Indian Air Force assets, strengthening operational effectiveness.
Separately, a Rs 1,543-crore contract for Varunastra Heavy Weight Torpedoes was signed with Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL), Hyderabad. Developed by the Naval Science and Technological Laboratory, Varunastra is an indigenous ship-launched anti-submarine torpedo designed to engage enemy submarines at long ranges.
The contracts were signed in New Delhi on October 15, 2026, in the presence of Additional Secretary and Director General (Acquisition) Shri A. Anbarasu. The agreements are expected to strengthen domestic defence manufacturing and promote self-reliance in critical technologies under the government's Aatmanirbhar Bharat and Make in India initiatives.
