The benchmark BSE Sensex surged by 1,200 points, while the NSE Nifty crossed the 25,000 mark for the first time in seven months on Thursday, driven by broad-based investor buying and renewed foreign fund inflows.

After trading within a range during the morning session, the indices gained strong momentum in the afternoon, led by sharp rallies in banking, auto, IT, and oil & gas stocks.

The 30-share benchmark index ended at 82530.74 up by 1200.18 points or by 1.48 % and then NSE Nifty was at 25062.1 up by 395.2 points or by 1.6 %.

Sensex touched intraday high of 82718.14 and intraday low of 80762.16 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 25116.25 and intraday low of 24494.45

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 705.80,+0.97%), Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 1843.00,+0.47%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 1611.50,+0.45%), Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone Ltd. (Rs. 1376.50,+0.40%), among others.

The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were IndusInd Bank Ltd. (Rs. 772.85,-1.11%), Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (Rs. 293.65,-0.81%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 3077.40,-0.78%), Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (Rs. 12589.00,-0.65%), Eternal Ltd. (Rs. 235.25,-0.65%), among others.
