Indian benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty are expected to open on a muted note today, taking cues from GIFT Nifty, which was trading around 24,952.50 as markets reopen after a holiday for Gandhi Jayanti/Dussehra.

In the previous session, equities snapped an 8-day losing streak, with Nifty closing above 24,800 after the RBI maintained the repo rate, lowered its inflation forecast to 2.6%, and revised GDP growth projection upward to 6.8%.

On Wednesday, the 30-share benchmark index ended at 80983.31 up by 715.69 points or by 0.89 % and then NSE Nifty was at 24836.3 up by 225.2 points or by 0.92 %.

On the global front, Markets in the Asia-Pacific region traded on a mixed note on Friday morning. Japan’s Nikkei 225 was trading higher by 0.42 per cent after the country’s September unemployment rate advanced to 2.6 per cent, beating street estimates of 2.4 per cent. Meanwhile, Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 declined 0.17 per cent. Markets on mainland China and South Korea are closed for holidays.

Overnight, in the US, Wall Street’s major indices settled at record closing highs, supported mainly by gains in the technology sector, even as investors kept a close watch on private labor market data during the second day of the US government shutdown. The tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite advanced 0.39 per cent, the broader S&P 500 edged up 0.06 per cent, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average added 0.17 per cent.

Gross equity purchased stood at Rs. 18706.70 Crore and gross debt purchased stood at Rs. 693.58 Crore, while the gross equity sold stood at Rs. 22732.76 Crore and gross debt sold stood at Rs. 800.72 Crore. Therefore, the net investment of equity and debt reported were Rs. -4026.06 Crore and Rs. -107.14
