India's stock market opened lower on Tuesday following weak global markets. The US President Donald Trump's threat of renewed tariffs weighed on the market sentiment. In the broader market, the BSE MidCap 150 index was down 0.8 per cent, and the SmallCap 250 declined 1 per cent.

Overseas, Asian stock markets are trading mixed on Tuesday, following the broadly negative cues from Wall Street overnight. The Australian stock market is trading modestly lower on Tuesday after opening in the green, extending the losses in the previous two sessions.

Meanwhile, Indian rupee opened lower at 90.93 per dollar on Tuesday versus previous close of 90.88.

At 9:54 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 82567.18 down by -727.48 points or by -0.87 % and then NSE Nifty was at 25499.45 down by -213.55 points or by -0.83 %.

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (Rs. 304.55,+0.40%), Axis Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1390.90,+0.31%), Asian Paints Ltd. (Rs. 2436.30,+0.31%), State Bank of India (Rs. 1231.15,+0.27%), NTPC Ltd. (Rs. 375.80,+0.09%), among others.

On the flip side, the top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were HCL Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 1367.20,-4.15%), Eternal Ltd. (Rs. 258.40,-3.62%), Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 1281.80,-3.51%), Kwality Wall's (India) Ltd. (Rs. 26.14,-3.44%), Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (Rs. 2591.10,-3.17%), among others.

On the sectoral front, Metal index was at 39606.91 up by 131.91 points or by 0.33%. Vedanta Ltd. (Rs. 688.60,+1.06%), Hindustan Zinc Ltd. (Rs. 594.85,+0.66%), NMDC Ltd. (Rs. 79.49,+0.63%), APL Apollo Tubes Ltd. (Rs. 2205.00,+0.61%), Jindal Steel Ltd. (Rs. 1223.20,+0.51%),.

Among others, IT index was at 29615.81 down by -1012.03 points or by -3.3%. L&T Technology Services Ltd. (Rs. 3275.00,-4.73%), Coforge Ltd. (Rs. 1228.80,-4.60%), Persistent Systems Ltd. The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 3572 , shares advanced were 1140 while 2265 shares declined and 167 were unchanged.
