The benchmark indices were trading in the negative territory in the afternoon deals on Tuesday. In the broader market, the BSE MidCap 100 and SmallCap indices declined over 1 per cent, each.

Among sectors, barring Nifty Pharma (up 0.07 per cent), all sectors were trading lower with Nifty IT among top laggard, down 5.29 per cent.

Among key stocks, Brahmaputra Infrastructure shares hit 5 per cent upper circuit at ₹167 on the BSE. Waaree Energies was moving higher after its arm signed an agreement with ZFI to expand a 2.5-GW electrolyser project in Uttar Pradesh.

At 14:30 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 82173.74 down by -1120.92 points or by -1.35 % and then NSE Nifty was at 25434.2 down by -278.8 points or by -1.08 %.

The BSE Sensex touched intraday high of 83079.51 and intraday low of 81934.73 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 25641.8 and intraday low of 25327.60.

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were NTPC Ltd. (Rs. 379.20,+1.00%), Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (Rs. 2355.70,+0.46%), Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 208.75,+0.34%), Titan Company Ltd. (Rs. 4280.00,+0.18%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1735.00,+0.16%), among others.

The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 1340.55,-7.02%), HCL Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 1334.50,-6.44%), Eternal Ltd. (Rs. 253.95,-5.28%), Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 1275.90,-3.96%), Larsen & Toubro Ltd. (Rs. 4253.50,-3.70%), among others.

Among the sectors, Metal index was at 39682.36 up by 207.36 points or by 0.53%. Steel Authority of India (SAIL) Ltd. (Rs. 158.60,+1.21%), Vedanta Ltd. (Rs. 689.35,+1.17%), NMDC Ltd. (Rs. 79.84,+1.08%), Jindal Steel Ltd. (Rs. 1229.35,+1.01%), JSW Steel Ltd. (Rs. 1252.40,+0.97%),.

Whereas, IT index was at 29222.44 down by -1405.4 points or by -4.59%. Ramco Systems Ltd. (Rs. 462.00,-9.84%), L&T Technology Services Ltd. (Rs. 3157.30,-8.16%), Affle 3I Ltd. (Rs. 1401.75,-7.11%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 1340.55,-7.02%), LTIMindtree Ltd. (Rs. 4500.00,-6.83%),.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 4452 , shares advanced were 1304 while 2969 shares declined and 179 were unchanged.
