Indian benchmark indices snapped a two-day gaining streak on February 24. Indian shares came under heavy selling pressure on Tuesday, with concerns over tariffs, U.S.-Iran tensions and worries over AI-related disruptions keeping investors on edge.
Overseas, Asian stocks ended mostly higher on Tuesday as traders evaluated the potential turbulence in the trade tariff environment following the U.S. Supreme Court's ruling on reciprocal tariffs.
Meanwhile, European stocks were flat to slightly lower on Tuesday, with a resurgence in trade uncertainty coupled with artificial-intelligence disruption concerns keeping investors on edge.
Among individual shares, share price of ICICI Prudential Asset Management Company (AMC) hit a new high of ₹3,174.30, gaining 1 per cent on the BSE in Tuesday’s intra-day trade. NTPC surged 1.9 percent and Hindustan Unilever added 0.9 percent.
In the commodities market, Oil prices held steady near seven-month highs on Tuesday ahead of a fresh round of U.S.-Iran nuclear talks later in the week. Gold prices retreated from a three-week high on Tuesday as an uptick in the U.S. dollar index prompted traders to book profits at higher levels.
The 30-share benchmark ended at 82225.92 down by -1068.74 points or by -1.28 % and then NSE Nifty was at 25424.65 down by -288.35 points or by -1.12 %.
During the day’s trade, Sensex touched intraday high of 83079.51 and intraday low of 81934.73 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 25641.8 and intraday low of 25327.60.
The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were NTPC Ltd. (Rs. 382.75,+1.94%), Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (Rs. 2359.30,+0.62%), Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 209.15,+0.53%), Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (Rs. 304.85,+0.49%), Titan Company Ltd. (Rs. 4282.65,+0.24%), among others.
The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 1346.55,-6.60%), HCL Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 1339.40,-6.10%), Eternal Ltd. (Rs. 253.95,-5.28%), Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 1276.55,-3.91%), Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (Rs. 2574.50,-3.79%), among others.
