Pre-Session: GIFT Nifty indicates positive start; Asian markets rise

Indian equity benchmarks the BSE Sensex and Nifty 50 are likely to open on a positive note, supported by firm global cues and strength in GIFT Nifty, which was trading around 23,521.50.

In the previous session, the indices snapped a three-day losing streak, with the Nifty 50 ending comfortably above the 23,400 mark in a volatile trade, led by gains in auto, banking, and FMCG stocks.

On Monday, the 30-share benchmark index ended at 75502.85 up by 938.93 points or by 1.26 % and then NSE Nifty was at 23408.8 up by 257.7 points or by 1.11 %.

On the global front, markets across the Asia-Pacific rose, tracking overnight gains on Wall Street, and as crude oil prices softened from earlier highs. Japan’s Nikkei 225 and South Korea’s Kospi were trading 0.30 per cent and 2.53 per cent higher, respectively.

Overnight, the S&P 500 and the Dow Jones Industrial Average ended 1.01 per cent and 0.83 per cent higher, respectively. The Nasdaq Composite settled 1.22 per cent.

On NSE, total number of shares traded was 548.80 Crore and total turnover stood at Rs. 124924.28 Crore.

On NSE Future and Options, total number of contracts traded in index futures was 275679 with a total turnover of Rs. 42493.51 Crore. Along with this total number of contracts traded in stock futures were 1526685 with a total turnover of Rs. 94700.98 Crore. Total numbers of contracts for index options were 176885752 with a total turnover of Rs. 26929474.84 Crore. and total numbers of contracts for stock options were 6964315 with a total turnover of Rs. 458330.45 Crore.

The FIIs on 16/03/2026 stood as net buyer in equity and debt. Gross equity purchased stood at Rs. 12824.84 Crore and gross debt purchased stood at Rs. 183.32 Crore, while the gross equity sold stood at Rs. 23652.29 Crore and gross debt sold stood at Rs. 119.22 Crore. Therefore, the net investment of equity and debt reported were Rs. -10827.45 Crore and Rs. 64.10
