Sensex extend losses; IT, TECK stocks weigh

Indian benchmark indices extended losses as traders assessed the situation in West Asia while the blockade at the Strait of Hormuz continued to weigh on energy supply outlook.

At 14:45 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 76730.77 down by -933.23 points or by -1.2 % and then NSE Nifty was at 23906.85 down by -266.2 points or by -1.1 %.

Sensex touched intraday high of 77710.82 and intraday low of 76403.87 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 24206 and intraday low of 23813.65

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Trent Ltd. (Rs. 4335.50,+2.04%), State Bank of India (Rs. 1103.25,+0.84%), Bajaj Finance Ltd. (Rs. 919.60,+0.20%), Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (Rs. 370.60,+0.05%), among others.

The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 1156.70,-6.91%), HCL Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 1205.00,-5.65%), Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (Rs. 2402.00,-4.78%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 1359.40,-4.29%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1619.05,-3.62%), among others.

Metal index was at 42003.32 up by -55.25 points or by -0.13%. NMDC Ltd. (Rs. 89.82,+2.85%), Coal India Ltd. (Rs. 456.15,+1.23%), Steel Authority of India (SAIL) Ltd. (Rs. 178.50,+1.16%), Hindalco Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1050.30,+0.85%), Jindal Steel Ltd. (Rs. 1262.10,+0.71%),.

_IT index was at 27693.62 down by -1450.85 points or by -4.98%. Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 1156.70,-6.91%), Genesys International Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 263.05,-6.40%), Cyient Ltd. (Rs. 877.45,-6.25%), HCL Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 1205.00,-5.65%), Persistent Systems Ltd. (Rs. 4778.50,-5.49%),.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 4571 , shares advanced were 1339 while 3038 shares declined and 194 were unchanged.
