Post-Session: Sensex drops 1k pts amid hefty selling in IT stocks

Equity benchmark indices BSE Sensex and Nifty 50 tumbled over 1% on Friday, marking their third straight day of losses, as a surge in crude oil prices and heavy selling in IT stocks dampened investor sentiment.

The 30-share benchmark index ended at 76664.21 down by -999.79 points or by -1.29 % and then NSE Nifty was at 23897.95 down by -275.1 points or by -1.14 %.

Sensex touched intraday high of 77710.82 and intraday low of 76403.87 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 24206 and intraday low of 23813.65

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Trent Ltd. (Rs. 4280.00,+0.73%), Bajaj Finance Ltd. (Rs. 921.70,+0.42%), State Bank of India (Rs. 1098.00,+0.36%), HDFC Bank Ltd. (Rs. 785.50,+0.13%), Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (Rs. 370.50,+0.03%), among others.

The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 1154.45,-7.09%), HCL Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 1202.80,-5.83%), Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (Rs. 2402.20,-4.77%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 1363.00,-4.04%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1618.50,-3.65%), among others.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 4672 , shares advanced were 1445 while 3040 shares declined and 187 were unchanged.
