Post-Session: Sensex, Nifty trim intraday gains; IT, metal and oil & gas stocks weigh

The Nifty50 and Sensex surrendered a significant portion of their intraday gains, as weakness in IT, metal, oil & gas stocks erased part of the day's rally. Despite the late pullback, the benchmark indices managed to close in positive territory, supported by gains in select heavyweight stocks.

The 30-share benchmark index ended at 77100.47 up by 109.25 points or by 0.14 % and then NSE Nifty was at 24056 up by 34.35 points or by 0.14 %.

Sensex touched intraday high of 77803.18 and intraday low of 76993.16 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 24261.6 and intraday low of 24039

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were InterGlobe Aviation Ltd. (Rs. 5449.65,+4.73%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 3181.80,+3.82%), Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (Rs. 13741.75,+3.69%), State Bank of India (Rs. 1045.15,+1.01%), ICICI Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1387.90,+1.01%), among others.

The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (Rs. 283.95,-2.36%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 1436.65,-1.68%), Bharat Electronics Ltd. (Rs. 406.80,-1.68%), Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 1041.40,-1.42%), Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 1850.70,-1.40%), among others.

Auto index was at 59666.96 up by 1337.43 points or by 2.29%. Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 432.15,+5.06%), Samvardhana Motherson International Ltd. (Rs. 151.70,+4.95%), TVS Motor Company Ltd. (Rs. 3577.00,+3.97%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 3181.80,+3.82%), Ashok Leyland Ltd. (Rs. 160.70,+3.71%),.

Metal index was at 40065.29 down by -556.41 points or by -1.37%. National Aluminium Company Ltd. (Rs. 332.20,-4.60%), Hindustan Zinc Ltd. (Rs. 518.10,-4.36%), Jindal Steel Ltd. (Rs. 1056.60,-3.08%), Hindalco Industries Ltd. (Rs. 952.70,-2.44%), APL Apollo Tubes Ltd. (Rs. 1794.65,-1.66%),.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 4690 , shares advanced were 1741 while 2724 shares declined and 225 were unchanged.
