Sensex rises 262 pts, Nifty at 24,650; defence stocks shine

Domestic bourses continued to trade higher during the noon trading session supported by buying in index heavyweights including Reliance Industries Ltd, State Bank of India, Bharat Electronics Ltd.Trent Ltd.and Eternal Ltd among others.

At 14:40 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 78843.85 up by 262.85 points or by 0.33 % and then NSE Nifty was at 24654.9 up by 30.25 points or by 0.12 %.

Sensex touched intraday high of 78926.11 and intraday low of 78633.73 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 24677.05 and intraday low of 24604.15

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Reliance Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1322.60,+3.25%), State Bank of India (Rs. 1084.90,+3.03%), Bharat Electronics Ltd. (Rs. 400.45,+2.89%), Trent Ltd. (Rs. 3161.50,+1.82%), Eternal Ltd. (Rs. 316.00,+1.67%), among others.

The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (Rs. 271.00,-3.90%), Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (Rs. 2384.45,-1.46%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 3418.70,-1.31%), InterGlobe Aviation Ltd. (Rs. 5335.00,-1.23%), UltraTech Cement Ltd. (Rs. 12081.00,-0.97%), among others.

CGS index was at 79002.09 up by 961.89 points or by 1.23%. Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd. (Rs. 4944.75,+7.11%), Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Ltd. (Rs. 2530.00,+6.74%), Cochin Shipyard Ltd. (Rs. 1492.00,+5.40%), Bharat Dynamics Ltd. (Rs. 1297.00,+4.43%), AIA Engineering Ltd. (Rs. 4811.75,+3.94%),.

Realty index was at 6941.95 down by -100.18 points or by -1.42%. DLF Ltd. (Rs. 641.80,-3.34%), Aditya Birla Real Estate Ltd. (Rs. 1389.90,-2.15%), Anant Raj Ltd. (Rs. 617.20,-1.64%), Oberoi Realty Ltd. (Rs. 1781.25,-1.48%), Lodha Developers Ltd. (Rs. 1227.60,-1.48%),.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 4689 , shares advanced were 2298 while 2168 shares declined and 223 were unchanged.
