Post-Session: Sensex gains 374 pts; Nifty ends above 24,600

Indian benchmark indices ended higher in a volatile trading session on August 6, with the Nifty closing above the 24,600 mark, supported by strong buying in PSU bank stocks.

However, the upside remained limited as selling pressure in the metal, media and realty sectors capped broader market gains.

The 30-share benchmark index ended 78954.76 up by 373.76 points or by 0.48 % and then NSE Nifty was at 24636 up by 11.35 points or by 0.05 %.

Sensex touched intraday high of 78954.76 and intraday low of 78633.73 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 24677.05 and intraday low of 24604.15

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Reliance Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1325.00,+3.43%), State Bank of India (Rs. 1084.85,+3.02%), Bharat Electronics Ltd. (Rs. 399.15,+2.56%), ICICI Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1476.95,+2.28%), Eternal Ltd. (Rs. 317.00,+1.99%), among others.

The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (Rs. 270.75,-3.99%), Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (Rs. 2370.00,-2.06%), InterGlobe Aviation Ltd. (Rs. 5321.00,-1.49%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 3415.00,-1.41%), Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (Rs. 13997.00,-1.15%), among others.

CGS index was at 79045.67 up by 1005.47 points or by 1.29%. Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Ltd. (Rs. 2530.00,+6.74%), Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd. (Rs. 4924.00,+6.66%), Cochin Shipyard Ltd. (Rs. 1488.00,+5.12%), Bharat Dynamics Ltd. (Rs. 1297.00,+4.43%), AIA Engineering Ltd. (Rs. 4798.80,+3.66%),.

Realty index was at 6941.97 down by -100.16 points or by -1.42%. DLF Ltd. (Rs. 642.90,-3.18%), Aditya Birla Real Estate Ltd. (Rs. 1386.00,-2.43%), Oberoi Realty Ltd. (Rs. 1777.70,-1.68%), Lodha Developers Ltd. (Rs. 1227.00,-1.52%), Prestige Estates Projects Ltd. (Rs. 1576.00,-1.50%),.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 4774 , shares advanced were 2291 while 2242 shares declined and 241 were unchanged.
