Mid-Session: Sensex down 189 points; NSE Nifty at 24143.05

Indian benchmark indices continued to trade lower in the afternoon session, with the Sensex declining over 180 points and the Nifty hovering around the 24,150 level. Weakness in FMCG, metal and PSU banking stocks weighed on the overall market sentiment.

At 12:30 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 77283.63 down by -189.31 points or by -0.24 % and then NSE Nifty was at 24143.05 down by -64.7 points or by -0.27 %.

Sensex touched intraday high of 77694.97 and intraday low of 77175.5 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 24297.45 and intraday low of 24133.75

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (Rs. 425.20,+2.16%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 1593.85,+1.33%), Bharat Electronics Ltd. (Rs. 411.65,+1.07%), ICICI Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1442.65,+0.84%), Asian Paints Ltd. (Rs. 2649.55,+0.74%), among others.

The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were HDFC Bank Ltd. (Rs. 712.80,-1.97%), NTPC Ltd. (Rs. 330.60,-1.46%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 3364.10,-1.00%), State Bank of India (Rs. 1044.20,-0.91%), Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 1110.85,-0.89%), among others.

CDS index was at 65499.28 up by 355.16 points or by 0.55%. Amber Enterprises India Ltd. (Rs. 7664.50,+2.60%), Kalyan Jewellers India Ltd. (Rs. 616.55,+1.02%), Asian Paints Ltd. (Rs. 2649.55,+0.74%), Titan Company Ltd. (Rs. 5139.95,+0.67%), Blue Star Ltd. (Rs. 1498.20,+0.29%),.

In BSE, BSE_CGS index was at 79495.3 up by 404.87 points or by 0.51%. Apar Industries Ltd. (Rs. 17728.00,+3.92%), Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (Rs. 430.95,+3.78%), Kirloskar Oil Engines Ltd. The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 4440 , shares advanced were 1788 while 2427 shares declined and 225 were unchanged.
