Sensex, Nifty in red; metals, PSU banks drag

Indian benchmark indices remained under pressure in Thursday’s afternoon session, with weakness across metal, PSU bank, media, and oil & gas stocks weighing on overall market sentiment.

At 14:35 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 77257.32 down by -215.62 points or by -0.28 % and then NSE Nifty was at 24142.7 down by -65.05 points or by -0.27 %.

Sensex touched intraday high of 77694.97 and intraday low of 77088.74 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 24297.45 and intraday low of 24120.6

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (Rs. 425.80,+2.31%), ICICI Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1449.60,+1.32%), Titan Company Ltd. (Rs. 5160.00,+1.06%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 1586.60,+0.87%), Eternal Ltd. (Rs. 329.75,+0.84%), among others.

The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were NTPC Ltd. (Rs. 329.00,-1.94%), HDFC Bank Ltd. (Rs. 714.30,-1.76%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 3355.20,-1.26%), Trent Ltd. (Rs. 2880.45,-1.02%), Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 1109.55,-1.00%), among others.

CDS index was at 65653.22 up by 509.1 points or by 0.78%. Kalyan Jewellers India Ltd. (Rs. 632.65,+3.66%), Amber Enterprises India Ltd. (Rs. 7709.35,+3.20%), Titan Company Ltd. (Rs. 5160.00,+1.06%), Asian Paints Ltd. (Rs. 2643.30,+0.51%), Dixon Technologies (India) Ltd. (Rs. 14772.10,+0.29%),.

Metal index was at 42702.92 down by -435.8 points or by -1.01%. Hindalco Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1021.30,-3.47%), Lloyds Metals & Energy Ltd. (Rs. 1801.50,-2.54%), NMDC Ltd. (Rs. 86.24,-2.44%), National Aluminium Company Ltd. (Rs. 389.50,-2.38%), Steel Authority of India (SAIL) Ltd. (Rs. 190.20,-2.36%),.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 4638 , shares advanced were 1840 while 2567 shares declined and 231 were unchanged.
