Sensex up 70 points, IT shares under pressure post US Fed's rate hike

The Nifty 50 and Sensex opened with a positive bias and were trading in a narrow range, despite weakness in global equities following the US Federal Reserve’s first rate hike since 2023.

At 9:40 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 74407.05 up by 70.6 points or by 0.09 % and then NSE Nifty was at 23252.05 up by 34.45 points or by 0.15 %.

Sensex touched intraday high of 74537.6 and intraday low of 74163.95 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 23267.7 and intraday low of 23193.65

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Eternal Ltd. (Rs. 323.15,+2.00%), Bharat Electronics Ltd. (Rs. 391.50,+1.32%), Bajaj Finance Ltd. (Rs. 1021.00,+1.24%), State Bank of India (Rs. 998.45,+0.74%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 3095.00,+0.68%), among others.

The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were HCL Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 1236.30,-1.19%), Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (Rs. 2171.35,-0.92%), HDFC Bank Ltd. (Rs. 715.90,-0.90%), Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 1052.75,-0.74%), Titan Company Ltd. (Rs. 4886.40,-0.58%), among others.

CGS index was at 74968.16 up by 739.76 points or by 1%. HBL Engineering Ltd. (Rs. 737.95,+4.75%), Kaynes Technology India Ltd. (Rs. 3533.05,+4.32%), Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (Rs. 420.95,+2.67%), Data Patterns (India) Ltd. (Rs. 4428.10,+2.44%), Jyoti CNC Automation Ltd. (Rs. 990.00,+2.37%),.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 3483 , shares advanced were 2392 while 911 shares declined and 180 were unchanged.
