Pre-Session: GIFT Nifty signals subdued start; Asian markets rise

Indian equity benchmarks are likely to open on a flat note on Friday, with GIFT Nifty trading marginally higher at 23,345. The cautious opening comes as oil prices erased earlier gains, while gains across Asian markets offered some support.

On Thursday, the 30-share benchmark index ended at 74314.59 down by -21.86 points or by -0.03 % and then NSE Nifty was at 23270.6 up by 53 points or by 0.23 %.

On the global front, Asia-Pacific markets advanced on Friday morning as traders looked past hawkish US Federal Reserve and resumed buying into the artificial intelligence (AI) story. Japan’s Nikkei 225 and South Korea’s Kospi were up 0.56 per cent and 2.06 per cent, respectively.

Overnight, the Dow Jones Industrial Average and the S&P 500 settled 0.61 per cent and 1.14 per cent higher, respectively. The Nasdaq Composite ended 1.69 per cent higher.

On NSE Future and Options, total number of contracts traded in index futures was 56459 with a total turnover of Rs. 8885.71 Crore. Along with this total number of contracts traded in stock futures were 775315 with a total turnover of Rs. 51142.47 Crore. Total numbers of contracts for index options were 63482100 with a total turnover of Rs. 9691270.89 Crore. and total numbers of contracts for stock options were 7094143 with a total turnover of Rs. 480326.86 Crore.

The FIIs on 17/09/2026 stood as net buyer in equity and debt. Gross equity purchased stood at Rs. 14440.22 Crore and gross debt purchased stood at Rs. Crore, while the gross equity sold stood at Rs. 17359.48 Crore and gross debt sold stood at Rs. Crore. Therefore, the net investment of equity and debt reported were Rs. -2919.26 Crore and Rs.
