Sensex, Nifty in red; metals sink 2%, realty, auto drag

Indian stock market benchmarks traded sharply lower on Wednesday afternoon, with the Sensex down 436 points.

At 14:27 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 72630.92 down by -436.89 points or by -0.6 % and then NSE Nifty was at 22559.3 down by -216.8 points or by -0.95 %.

Sensex touched intraday high of 73018.82 and intraday low of 72468.72 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 22717.65 and intraday low of 22546.3

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (Rs. 440.65,+2.18%), Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 1832.10,+1.28%), ICICI Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1353.40,+0.88%), Bajaj Finance Ltd. (Rs. 968.55,+0.70%), Eternal Ltd. (Rs. 328.45,+0.12%), among others.

The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Titan Company Ltd. (Rs. 4374.70,-3.64%), Larsen & Toubro Ltd. (Rs. 3690.15,-2.20%), Bharat Electronics Ltd. (Rs. 379.00,-2.17%), HCL Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 1176.20,-2.15%), Asian Paints Ltd. (Rs. 2368.00,-2.15%), among others.

Bankex index was at 62095 up by -23.34 points or by -0.04%. Union Bank of India (Rs. 173.65,+3.12%), Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (Rs. 440.65,+2.18%), Punjab National Bank (Rs. 114.30,+2.05%), Canara Bank (Rs. 119.25,+1.36%), Bank of Baroda (Rs. 235.65,+1.22%),.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 4728 , shares advanced were 1976 while 2503 shares declined and 249 were unchanged.
