Indian benchmark indices are likely to open on a negative note on October 8, tracking the weak cues from global markets. The GIFT Nifty was trading around 22,541 in early trade, signaling a subdued start for the Nifty 50 amid a continued rise in bond yields.
The domestic market ended lower in a volatile session on October 7, snapping a two-day winning streak after the RBI raised the repo rate by 25 basis points to 5.50%, marking its first rate hike since February 2023, and shifted its monetary policy stance to calibrated tightening.
On Wednesday, the 30-share benchmark index ended at 72638.7 down by -429.11 points or by -0.59 % and then NSE Nifty was at 22603.05 down by -173.05 points or by -0.76 %.
On the global front, Asia-Pacific markets were trading lower, tracking overnight losses on Wall Street after higher bond yields curbed investors’ appetite for equities. Japan’s Nikkei 225 and South Korea’s KOSPI fell 0.55 per cent and 0.2 per cent, respectively.
Overnight, the Dow Jones Industrial Average and the S&P 500 ended 0.66 per cent and 0.22 per cent down, respectively. The Nasdaq Composite settled 0.22 per cent.
The yield on the benchmark 10-year US Treasury note was at 5.3 per cent.

Therefore, the net investment of equity and debt reported were Rs. -2449.84 Crore and Rs. 2104.54
