Chidambaram refuses to roll back economy-friendly decisions

The finance minister P Chidambaram today looked confident on getting through the hurdles placed by TMC chief Mamata Banerjee on proposed reforms and ruled out the possibility of rolling back those decisions including diesel price hike and FDI in retail.

Mamata Banerjee, whose 72-hours deadline to the government to roll back reforms ends today, has threatened strong action against the Centre for taking decisions like FDI in multi-brand retail, which, according to her, would risk the jobs of several workers at small local shops.

Chidambaram also went on to say that government would announce more such reforms between now and October 30 in its efforts to revive economy’s growth and consolidate fiscal health.

Meanwhile, experts have also been hoping that Congress may try to win over Mamata by easing the limit imposed on LPG cylinders per year for a household.
