The Indian Institute of Foreign Trade (IIFT) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with APEC – Antwerp/Flanders Port Training Center, Belgium, to enhance academic collaboration in international trade, logistics, and supply chain management. This partnership aims to strengthen trade education through faculty and student exchanges, joint research on port management, and specialized training programs. Key focus areas include digital trade, e-governance, and emerging business technologies.
Speaking at the event, Minister of State for Commerce & Industry, Shri Jitin Prasada, emphasized the significance of international partnerships in advancing India’s trade ecosystem. He noted that this collaboration would equip future business leaders with world-class training and global trade insights. His Excellency Matthias Diependaele, Minister-President of the Flemish Government, highlighted Antwerp’s strategic role as a key gateway to Europe and commended India’s commitment to democratic and economic partnerships.
Commerce Secretary Shri Sunil Barthwal welcomed the initiative, reaffirming India’s focus on strengthening global trade logistics. The MoU signing was attended by dignitaries including Ajay Bhadoo, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Commerce & Industry; Mr. Jacques Vandermeiren, CEO of Port of Antwerp-Bruges; Mr. Dirk De Fauw, President of Port of Antwerp-Bruges International; and Mr. Kristof Waterschoot, Managing Director of Port of Antwerp-Bruges International.
Prof. Rakesh Mohan Joshi, Vice Chancellor, IIFT, highlighted the importance of practical exposure for students, stating that this collaboration would enhance their understanding of port operations and global supply chains. The MoU builds on IIFT’s longstanding relationship with the Port of Antwerp, which began in 2019 with student visits. The event concluded with a commitment to implementing the MoU’s objectives and fostering academic and industry collaborations in global trade.
