Jindal Stainless supplies stainless steel for Bengaluru Metro Phase 2 expansion

Jindal Stainless, India’s largest stainless steel manufacturer, has supplied premium 301N austenitic stainless steel for the Bengaluru Metro Phase 2 project, reinforcing its role in the country’s urban transport infrastructure. The Yellow Line under this phase was recently inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

So far, the company has delivered 1,031 metric tonnes of stainless steel for the project, with further supplies planned. The high-performance 301N grade is being used across metro coach structures, including roofs, due to its superior strength-to-weight ratio, corrosion resistance, fire and crash safety, and low carbon footprint.

Commenting on the development, Jindal Stainless Managing Director Abhyuday Jindal said, “The modernisation of India’s metro networks is vital to sustainable urban mobility. By supplying safer and more durable stainless steel, we are reaffirming our commitment to building long-lasting and eco-friendly transport systems.”

Jindal Stainless has a long-standing association with metro projects worldwide, having supplied stainless steel through Alstom India for networks in Queensland, Melbourne, and Sydney, as well as for nearly every metro system in India. Its portfolio also includes supplying stainless steel for flagship railway projects such as the Vande Bharat sleeper trains, Vande Metro, Kolkata’s underwater metro, the first Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS), and Mumbai Metro. The company has been a key stainless steel supplier to Indian Railways since 1998.
