ORSL Signs MoU with IIT Roorkee to Boost Biomass and Biochar Research

Organic Recycling Systems Limited (ORSL), a leading Indian clean-tech company focused on sustainable waste valorisation and circular economy solutions, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee (IITR). The collaboration aims to advance research in biomass valorisation, biochar development, and related environmental technologies.

The partnership combines ORSL’s industrial expertise with IITR’s research capabilities under its Department of Hydro and Renewable Energy (HRED), fostering innovation in renewable energy, carbon-neutral solutions, and circular economy initiatives.

Key Focus Areas:

Biomass Applications: Development of biofuels, biochemical processes, and utilization of agricultural residues for industry.

Biochar Development: Production and use of biochar for carbon sequestration, soil enhancement, and water purification.

Torrefaction Research: Process optimization of biomass and municipal solid waste to improve energy recovery.

Knowledge Exchange: Joint training, research, and industry-academia programs to build skills and promote innovation.

Statements:

Mr. Sarang Bhand, Managing Director of ORSL, said the partnership will accelerate R&D in biomass and MSW valorisation, strengthening India’s clean energy and carbon neutrality goals.

Prof. Vivek Kumar Malik, Dean of Sponsored Research and Industrial Consultancy at IIT Roorkee, emphasized the institute’s focus on translating research into scalable industrial applications.

Prof. Dr. Sonal K. Thengane, Associate Professor at IIT Roorkee’s Department of Hydro and Renewable Energy, added that the collaboration aims to replicate this sustainable model across the country.
