Coal India appoints B. Sairam as Chief Executive Officer

Coal India Limited (CIL) has appointed B. Sairam, Chairman-cum-Managing Director (CMD), as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the company. The decision was taken by the Board at its meeting held on December 26, 2025.

The appointment is effective from the date of assumption of charge and will continue until his superannuation or further orders, whichever is earlier. The formal date of appointment is December 15, 2025 (A/N).

Shri B. Sairam brings over three decades of experience in the coal sector. Prior to his current role, he served as CMD of Northern Coalfields Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of CIL. Earlier, he was Director (Technical) at Central Coalfields Limited, where he played a key role in coal logistics development, First Mile Connectivity projects, regulatory clearances, and projectisation of greenfield and brownfield mines.

A graduate mining engineer from NIT Raipur with an MBA in Energy Management from NTPC School of Business, Delhi, Shri Sairam has extensive exposure across mine operations, project planning, logistics, regulatory affairs, and community development. During his tenure at Northern Coalfields Limited, he led major initiatives including large-scale project financing, regulatory fast-tracking, and one of the largest mining rehabilitation and resettlement programmes for the Jayant expansion project.

There is no disclosure of any relationship between directors, and the appointment does not fall under related party transactions, as per applicable BSE and NSE circulars.
