Govt imposes one-year import curbs on three penicillin-related pharma ingredients

The government has imposed a minimum import price (MIP) on three key pharmaceutical ingredients used in the manufacture of penicillin-class antibiotics—Penicillin G-potassium, 6-APA, and Amoxicillin Trihydrate—for a period of one year, according to an official notification.

These ingredients have been placed under the restricted import category. The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), in a notification dated January 29, said imports of Penicillin G-potassium with a CIF value below Rs 2,216 per kg, 6-APA below Rs 3,405 per kg, and Amoxicillin Trihydrate below Rs 2,733 per kg will be restricted for one year from the date of publication.

The move is aimed at regulating imports of these critical antibiotic inputs and supporting domestic manufacturing.
