Budget 2026: FM Proposes Duty-Free Inputs to Boost Leather Exports

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Sunday proposed duty-free imports of certain specified inputs to support and promote India’s leather exports sector.

The move is expected to provide relief to exporters facing pressure from steep 50% tariffs imposed by the United States, helping improve cost competitiveness in global markets.

India’s leather and leather products exports declined marginally by 0.23% to USD 3.3 billion during the April–December period of FY26, highlighting the need for targeted policy support.
