RBI announces Rs 15,440 redemption price for premature exit of select SGB tranches

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has announced the redemption price for premature redemption of Sovereign Gold Bond Scheme tranches SGB 2019-20 Series IX and SGB 2020-21 Series V, which are due for early redemption on February 11, 2026.

As per the Government of India notifications dated September 30, 2019 (SGB 2019-20 Series IX, issued on February 11, 2020) and April 13, 2020 (SGB 2020-21 Series V, issued on August 11, 2020), premature redemption of the bonds is permitted after the fifth year from the date of issue, on interest payment dates. Accordingly, the due date for premature redemption of these tranches falls on February 11, 2026.

The redemption price is calculated based on the simple average of the closing price of gold of 999 purity for the previous three business days prior to the redemption date, as published by the India Bullion and Jewellers Association Ltd (IBJA).

Based on the average closing prices for February 6, February 9, and February 10, 2026, the redemption price has been fixed at Rs 15,440 per unit of SGB.
