RBI announces Premature Redemption Price for SGB 2020-21 Series VIII

Reserve Bank of India has announced the premature redemption price for Sovereign Gold Bond (SGB) 2020-21 Series VIII, which is due for redemption on May 18, 2026.

As per the Government of India notification dated October 9, 2020, premature redemption of the bond is permitted after the completion of five years from the date of issue, on the interest payment date. The bonds under this series were issued on November 18, 2020.

RBI stated that the redemption price has been fixed at Rs 16,012 per unit based on the simple average of the closing price of 999 purity gold for the previous three business days — May 13, May 14 and May 15, 2026 — as published by the India Bullion and Jewellers Association Ltd (IBJA).
