Bharat Coking Coal Ltd (BCCL), a subsidiary of Coal India Ltd (CIL), on Wednesday announced the commencement of commercial operations at its 2 million tonne per annum (MTPA) Bhojudih coking coal washery in West Bengal.
The new facility is aimed at enhancing the supply of washed coking coal to the domestic steel sector, where coking coal serves as a key raw material for steel manufacturing.
The commissioning of the washery is considered significant as India continues to depend heavily on imported coking coal to meet domestic demand, leading to substantial foreign exchange outflows. The project is expected to support efforts toward improving domestic availability and reducing import dependence.
