RBI fixes SGB 2020-21 series III premature redemption price at Rs 14,774 per unit

The Reserve Bank of India has announced that the premature redemption price for Sovereign Gold Bond (SGB) 2020-21 Series III has been fixed at Rs 14,774 per unit for investors opting to redeem their bonds on June 16, 2026.

Under the terms of the Sovereign Gold Bond Scheme, investors are permitted to redeem their bonds prematurely after the completion of five years from the date of issue, on interest payment dates. The SGB 2020-21 Series III tranche was issued on June 16, 2020, making June 16, 2026, the next eligible premature redemption date.

The redemption price has been calculated based on the simple average of the closing price of 999 purity gold published by the India Bullion and Jewellers Association Ltd over the previous three business days — June 11, June 12, and June 15, 2026.

At Rs 14,774 per unit, the redemption value reflects the sharp appreciation in gold prices since the bond's issuance and provides eligible investors with an opportunity to exit their holdings before the bond's maturity while benefiting from prevailing gold market prices.
