India's Defence Production Hits Record Rs 1.78 Lakh Crore in FY26

India's defence production reached an all-time high of Rs 1.78 lakh crore in FY 2025-26, registering a growth of 15.6% over Rs 1.54 lakh crore recorded in the previous fiscal year.

The achievement marks a 110% increase from FY 2020-21, when defence production stood at Rs 84,643 crore, and nearly four times the level of Rs 43,746 crore reported in FY 2013-14. Defence Public Sector Undertakings (DPSUs) and other public sector entities contributed around 76% of the total output, while the private sector accounted for 24%, its highest-ever share, contributing approximately Rs 42,000 crore.

The growth in domestic defence manufacturing also supported a record defence export performance, with exports touching Rs 38,424 crore during FY26. The government attributed the milestone to its push for self-reliance in defence production under the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said the achievement reflects the strengthening of India's defence industrial ecosystem and highlighted the role of policy support, increased private sector participation and rising export capabilities in driving the sector's growth.
