Govt successfully auctions six coal blocks, expected to generate Rs 1,984 cr annual revenue

The Ministry of Coal has successfully auctioned six coal blocks under the 15th round and the second attempt of the 13th round of commercial coal mine auctions. Of the six blocks, four are fully explored while two are partially explored, with a combined geological reserve of around 1,503.93 million tonnes and a cumulative Peak Rated Capacity (PRC) of 11.62 million tonnes per annum (MTPA).

The auctioned mines are expected to generate annual revenue of approximately Rs 1,983.67 crore, attract capital investment of around Rs 1,743 crore, and create nearly 15,710 employment opportunities.

Since the launch of commercial coal mining in 2020, the government has successfully auctioned 147 coal blocks with a combined production capacity of 377.97 million tonnes per year. Once operational, these mines are projected to generate annual revenue of Rs 48,215 crore, mobilise Rs 54,315 crore in investments, and create nearly 4.9 lakh jobs, supporting India's goal of achieving greater self-reliance in the coal sector.
