The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has imposed a monetary penalty of Rs 1.80 lakh on Valuefin India Credit Services Private Limited for non-compliance with its directions concerning the acquisition of shareholding or control.
The penalty was imposed through an order dated August 11, 2026, under provisions of the RBI Act, 1934. The action followed correspondence between the RBI and the company regarding the post-facto approval sought for the acquisition of more than 26% of the company’s paid-up equity capital by new investors.
After reviewing the company’s response to the show-cause notice and submissions made during a personal hearing, the RBI found that Valuefin India Credit Services had failed to obtain prior written permission from the central bank for a change in shareholding exceeding 26% of its paid-up equity capital.
The RBI clarified that the penalty relates to regulatory compliance deficiencies and does not question the validity of any transactions or agreements entered into by the company with its customers. The imposition of the penalty is also without prejudice to any other action that may be initiated by the RBI against the company.
